Teachers who wish to pursue the Classroom Teaching career line under DepEd’s Expanded Career Progression System may apply for reclassification of their teaching positions. To qualify, applicants must meet the required Qualification Standards and Performance Requirements.
Before preparing your documents and writing your Letter of Intent, it’s best to check first if you meet the desired proficiency level by assessing your performance ratings using the Reclassification Form for Teaching Positions (RFTP) for Teacher II–VII.
What You Need
Counting the Classroom Observable Indicators (COIs) and Non-Classroom Observable Indicators (NCOIs) manually can be confusing, so I created an automated Excel tool to make the process easier and faster. Follow the steps below to check if you meet the performance requirements for teacher reclassification using the PPST Indicator Checker.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Download the PPST Indicator Checker. Fill in the table below with your details to download the tool. Open it in Excel (not Google Sheets or a mobile viewer). When prompted, click Enable Content or Enable Macros.
📎 Important:
This tool works best in Microsoft Excel (desktop version) because it uses macros. If you open it in Google Sheets, the automated features (like toggle checkboxes) will not work.
Step 2: Prepare your IPCRF(s). Your IPCRF must have at least a Very Satisfactory (VS) rating.
- Applying for Teacher II → 1 IPCRF
- Applying for Teacher III → 2 IPCRFs
- Applying for Teacher IV–VII → 3 IPCRFs
Take note that an applicant may submit at most three (3) performance ratings provided that the latest performance rating shall cover one (1) year complete performance rating period in the current position.
Step 3: Turn your latest IPCRF on Part III: Summary of Ratings for Discussion. IPCRF for SY 2024-2025 includes the indicator number so it is easy to summarize, making it easier to summarize.

Step 4: Input your ratings in the automated PPST Indicator Checker. Check the adjectival rating that corresponds to the specific indicator in your IPCRF. The adjectival ratings are as follows:
- O = Outstanding
- VS = Very Satisfactory
- S = Satisfactory
Example: A teacher applicant’s rating for Indicator 1.1.2 is Outstanding.

The teacher applicant checks O in Indicator 1.1.2 on the PPST Indicator Checker.

Do this for all fourteen (14) indicators in your latest IPCRF. Make sure to double-check indicator numbers to avoid mismatched entries.
A Teacher II applicant is required to have one (1) year of teaching experience, along with 6 Proficient COIs and 4 Proficient NCOIs, both rated Very Satisfactory (VS). One IPCRF is enough to cover these performance requirements since it already includes 14 indicators for a school year.
Meanwhile, a Teacher III applicant needs two (2) IPCRFs to meet the required 12 Proficient COIs at Very Satisfactory and 8 Proficient NCOIs at Very Satisfactory. For Teacher IV–VII applicants, three (3) IPCRFs are needed to meet the 21 Proficient COIs (VS) and 16 Proficient NCOIs (VS) required for reclassification.
Step 5: For IPCRFs (SY 2022–2023 and 2023–2024): These do not show indicator numbers in Part III.
How to Identify the Adjectival Rating for Indicators without Indicator Numbers?
- Refer to Part I of the IPCRF to match the objective with its indicator number.
- Go back to Part III to find its adjectival rating.
- Mark the corresponding rating (O, VS, or S) in the Checker.
Example: Indicator 1.5.2 “Apply a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as other higher-order thinking skills.” appears in the IPCRF for SY 2023–2024.

Since Part III doesn’t show the indicator number, go to Part I and locate the corresponding objective to find it.

In Part I, this indicator corresponds to Objective 3. Next, go back to Part III to find its adjectival rating.

If Objective 3 in Part III is rated Outstanding, mark O in Indicator 1.5.2 on the PPST Indicator Checker.

Repeat this process until you have recorded the ratings for all indicators in your IPCRF.
Step 6: View the summary. Once all indicators are filled in, the PPST Indicator Checker will automatically count your ratings for COIs and NCOIs. You can find the summary at the bottom of the sheet.

Step 7: Compare your results with the performance requirements. Refer to the table below to see if you qualify for your target position.

Example: An incumbent Teacher II vying for a Teacher V position must have at least 6 Proficient COIs at Outstanding and 4 Proficient NCOIs at Outstanding. If his summary shows 19 Proficient COIs at Outstanding, 2 Proficient COIs at Very Satisfactory, 8 Proficient NCOIs at Outstanding, and 8 Proficient NCOIs at Very Satisfactory, he meets the the performance requirements and qualifies for a Teacher V position.
Take note that to qualify for a position, you must also meet the performance requirements of the preceding positions. This is why it’s important to accomplish the RFTP first so you’ll know which position you’re eligible to apply for.
Step 8: Accomplish the RFTP. The PPST Indicator Checker is just a tool to help you identify if you meet the performance requirements of the position you want to apply for. You still need to fill out the Reclassification Form for Teaching Positions (RFTP) using the prescribed template (which you can download here). This form is part of the required documents for submission.
The process of applying for reclassification may seem long and tedious, but every step you take brings you closer to your professional growth. Completing forms, checking indicators, and organizing documents may test your patience—but remember, these are not just requirements; they are reflections of your dedication and hard work as an educator. As the saying goes,
“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.”
Each form you fill out, each rating you review, and each effort you pour into this process is part of your race toward advancement. Keep going. You’re not just chasing a higher position – you’re building a stronger version of yourself, one who inspires, leads, and continues to make a difference in the lives of learners. May your efforts be rewarded and your application be blessed!
